Holland Friends of Art presents our Visiting Artist Series: Adventures with a living fossil in Australia, presented by Sandra Hansen.
International, environmental artist, Sandra Hansen, is well known for her art and her travels around the world. Sandra’s art medium is leaves and wood, which she appears to magically turn into paper. In reality, Sandra spends many long hours soaking, cooking, and beating the materials into a pulp. This applesauce looking pulp, then, becomes the base for her exquisite, translucent papers. Sandra has recently returned from a 2 1/2 month long trip to an artist residency in the village of Bilpin outside of Sydney Australia. There she experimented with making paper from indigenous leaves and barks. One of the trees she made paper from was the Wollemi pine tree. Because the tree was thought to be extinct for 90 million years, Sandra became the first person in the world to make paper from the Wollemi pine. Come to her presentation on June 18.2019 at 7 p.m. to see her handmade paper and listen to a PowerPoint talk on her amazing travels.
The presentation is Free, open to the public and refreshments will be served.
